What is art?

Art is the physical representation of an idea. It is expressed through a simple skill that is perfected over time through repetition. It can be utilized in order to persuade or to inform a particular audience about a topic significant to the artist. In this photo is a sculpture that stands outside of a large office complex in downtown Baltimore Maryland. It is composed of all metal and welded together to form a fox howling at the moon. It displays ones idea of a living being through the medium of metal working.

  1. I love how the piece is not identical to a specific animal. You mentioned in your description that it is a fox howling when I immediately assumed it was a wolf. This piece definitely supports the argument that art can be open for interpretation!

  2. Well, the first thing that entered my mind was a fox. In fact I'm not even sure if fox's howl at the moon, but this is just what I see. It is a very broad piece, seeing as how it has very little detail that differentiates it from other animals. I guess the creativity of the piece branch's from its vagueness.
